Air Pollution, an Issue Related to Traffic

Miriam Jomo

An air pollutant is a substance in the air that can have adverse effects on humans and the ecosystem. The substance can be solid particles, liquid droplets, or gases. A pollutant can be of natural origin or man-made.  In this case vehicles are the main cause of air pollution and this greatly witnessed in the area of Ongata Rongai due to the heavy traffic in the area especially in the evening.

With the traffic every single day the air is mostly affected. This can cause other dangerous diseases like Asthma, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder or COPD and Lung cancer, this are but the many more. The only way to cub this issues and eliminate it for good is if an alternative fuel can be introduced and in Ongata Rongai the roads could be expanded.

People most susceptible to severe health problems from air pollution are: Individuals with heart disease – such as coronary artery disease or congestive heart failure. Individuals with lung disease – such as asthma, emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)  and Pregnant women.
